The state of Massachusetts has given us some of urban music's most respected (Guru of GangStarr), controversial (Benzino), and successful (New Edition, Bobby Brown) recording artists. Born and raised less than a hundred miles outside of Boston, in the city of Springfield, NATO looks to add his name to that list. He most recently debuted his music video "Maybe So", which is the lead single of his anticipated, yet untitled, debut album, which will hit stores on September 21, 2010 via Banks Street Records.
"'Maybe So' is the lead single of my long-awaited solo debut album. It is my strong introduction into the new and explosive Hip-Hop game! The song explains how I feel about the current status of the urban industry and how I plan to contribute to the game. So while critics are saying 'No' or 'Maybe So', true fans are saying 'Yes'!" explains NATO.
"As far as for the 'Maybe So' video, I was aiming for a little something more artist focused to let the viewers get a bit familiar with NATO instead of any other distraction so they can get an idea of what I'm really trying to bring to the table."
NATO began his music career with controversial local rap group Illegal Bastardz, performing under the name Evil At. The group built a modest fan base in the metropolitan area and garnered strong support from New York’s Hot 97 and various college radio stations, before disbanding over creative differences.
Now a solo recording artist under his own independent label Banks Street Records, Evil At morphed into NATO, a nickname given to the rapper by his grandmother as a young child.
With videos, movies and his debut solo album on the horizon, NATO is ready to make the move from a hardcore street rapper to a hardcore commercial recording artist. So pay attention to NATO as he adds his name to that list through hard and dedicated work!
