IOWA RAP GROUP HAWK CITY HUSKAZ DROP "THE GHETTO"

You're about to witness the strength of street...again. Straight out of Fort Dodge, it's the Hawk City Huskaz. Comprised of members Grilla aka Mr. Ping, Shawn Smith aka Hawk, Yung Yung-EN, and Bullet, the rap group has released the music video for the group's first single, "The Ghetto", which was filmed entirely in Fort Dodge and directed by Emmanuel Taylor based on concepts by Hawk and longtime collaborator DJ Illanoize, in anticipation of their major debut on April 12th
Hawk City Huskaz takes its name from the four members. "Hawk is because I was born in Iowa and the state is known for [its] college team the Iowa Hawkeyes," says Hawk, a 12-year veteran of Iowa's underground music scene and CEO of Hawk City Records. "City represents Grilla, who is from Kansas City, Missouri, while Bullet and Yung Yung-EN both come from the same hood in Omaha, Nebraska which is represented by the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers or what we refer to as Huskaz."

Hawk City Huskaz recently signed a major distribution deal, making the seasoned clique the first national rap act to come out of a state that doesn't even have an urban station in its capitol.

"The Hip-Hop scene in Iowa is very much alive, but not enough resources have been applied for it to be heard properly," says Hawk, who was also a former 2-time Iowa Amateur Golden Glove champion. "We have thriving black communities, but the music scene needs to be properly fed."
