Atlanta’s own Waka Flocka Flame has announced June 12th as the release date of his sophomore album, Triple F Life: Friends, Fans, and Family. Led by the Drake-assisted “Round of Applause,” this follow-up to his breakout debut will feature appearances from Tyga, Ludacris, B.o.B and more.
On Friday, March 9th Waka gave fans a peak at what Triple F has in store by releasing the callously cool “I Don’t Really Care” featuring Trey Songz to his hometown’s radio stations prompting repeated playbacks. Last week the song became the most added record at the urban mainstream radio format and is now available for purchase on iTunes. A visual for “I Don’t Really Care” will be shot in Atlanta on April 10th.
Dubbed “King of the Club” by Drake, Waka will join Meek Mill, J. Cole, 2 Chainz and French Montana on the Toronto rapper’s 27-city “Club Paradise” tour. The tour kicks off on May 7th in Concord, CA at the Sleep Train Pavilion and wraps in Boston’s Comcast Center on June 17th. While its been two years filled with career highs and personal lows for the beleagured rapper, Waka Flocka has worked on causes that speak to his Triple F’s. In the winter of 2011, he started collaborating with Atlanta-based SNAPBACKS For A Cause to develop a line SEA whose sales would benfit the PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. Earlier this month, Waka Flocka revised his role with PETA in their “Only Cowards Abuse Animals” campaign which raises awareness about animal protection and the chaining, fighting, and abuse of dogs.
Last October of 2010, Waka Flocka Flame burst onto the scene with his debut album Flockaveli which was dubbed as “the most anarchic rap album of 2010″ by the Washington Post. Led by the #1 single and triple-platinum “No Hands” featuring Wale and Roscoe Dash, Flockaveli debuted at #6 and was both praised and criticized for its abandonment of lyrical prose for menacing, adrenaline-fused production. With over 300k copies sold, the New York Times cited Flockaveli as “one of the most bracing and unforgiving hip-hop releases in recent memory. Almost single-handedly, and without context, it rediscovers hip-hop’s pugnacity in an era of extreme melodic sophistication, an idiosyncratic anomaly.”
