RapFix: Diggy Simmons Says He Didn't Leak J. Cole Diss

A new track from Diggy Simmons titled “What You Say To Me,” appeared on the web Sunday morning and a close listen revealed that the song took a few direct shots at J.Cole. The lines in particular find Diggy defending his sister Vanessa Simmons, who felt disrespected by the Roc Nation rapper on his single “Purple Rain.” J. Cole has yet to respond to the leak, but during a Monday interview with 99.1 KGGI in California, Diggy explained that he’d recorded the song over a year ago.
“It was really just that my sister, over a year ago, told me that he [J. Cole] was saying he did this that and the third with her—because they went same college—but they didn’t even really know each other like that, so it wasn’t like that,” Diggy said.
“And she also told me that he subliminally talked about her in a song called “Purple Rain,” which was also false. So it was just me sticking up for my family,” he continued. “That’s all it really was. I didn’t leak it or anything, it got leaked last night. I was at the movies and my boy hit me and he was like ‘What You Say To Me” leaked, because I did that record last year.
“It’s like a little over we year old. I did that last year in February when I first started recording the album,” he explained. “I was gonna put it out but I didn’t feel like it was appropriate, but like I said—that’s my sister and that’s how I felt.”
Diggy’s father, Run-DMC’s Reverend Run, took to Twitter on Sunday to defend his son and according to the young rapper, he wasn’t upset about the fact that the song leaked. “He already had heard the track and [he said] the same thing, ‘family over everything, that’s your sister,’ so he wasn’t mad about it at all.”
In response to a question about whether or not he’s expecting a rebuttal from Cole, Diggy responded: “I don’t really care, that’s not my focus.”
